I just cleaned my closet and my dresser drawers. Like REALLY cleaned them out.
I have a LOT of clothes but not many basics.
I don't NEED another black, white or black & white skirt.
I don't NEED another dress.
I don't NEED another denim jacket.
I don't NEED another cardigan (I am SERIOUSLY addicted to these lol)
I NEED some colored skirts (epecially pencil skirts)
I NEED some button down blouses.
I NEED some jackets/blazers.
I NEED some khaki, black, white trousers.
I NEED some casual tops.
I have pulled out a few things to sew. So I'm going to do those then do a few more. I NEED more separates. Yep. GOTTA have them.
How do you determine what you NEED when sewing or what's just cute?
Ohhhhh I'm the wrong person to ask Adrienne! I'm stuck right now because my sewing list is so big I don't know where to start! Separates are always good because it gives you the option of mix and matching!

There must be something in the atmosphere. I, too came to the conclusion that I only need 3 more summer dresses then concentrate on separates that go year round.
Remember.... Button down shirts require you to put buttons on them. And button holes are of the devil!

I really should do the same. I don't have a formula perse', but I know i need tops in an assortment of colors. i'm ok on dress pants, but lacking seriously on casual clothes. I have plenty of work and church, even pretty well stocked on evening wear. I find my casual clothes almost sloppy, t shirts shirts, etc. I want mire work dresses so that's what I'm working now. Thanks for the post!

I want to start focusing my sewing on items that I cannot find in the stores. Items with very unique details to move my sewing skills to another level.

I've had to analyze my closet as well. I realize I NEED basics so I can build my wardrobe from there. I also need more casual clothes. I'd gotten to the point that when I shopped, I always looked for work-appropriate clothes. Then I end up struggling for clothes on the weekend. Not fun.

I purge twice a year and try my darnest to sewing according to what I need, but always end up doing random sewing. However, I can say my subconscious knows what I need, I tend to find something to go with the randon sewn garment.
I am so with you on cardigans and actually plan to refashion a few long sleeve ones to short sleeves.
