Do you own one?
Can you believe with all the sewing I do and have done that I do NOT own a LBD? It's just a dress made in black fabric right? LOL
Well I take that back, I do have this one:
Vogue 8184 (You can see the review HERE
But it's not TOTALLY black, so does that count?
I got my InStyle Makeover Magazine in the mail today and it showcased some great LBD's.
LOVE the embellished cuffs on #1
I MUST make a one shoulder dress!!!
LOVE the sparkly!! #14 is SO cute! I saw some fabric similar to this in Atlanta last time I was there. I ALMOST got it. I have to make sure it doesn't look like a "cheap club dress". I don't like that look lol.
LOVE teh peplum on #19!!!
Then #25...yesssss lol
Someone please tell me WHY it's so hard for me to make a black dress! I don't know what my problem is but I NEED to solve it.
I don't want just ONE LBD, I want a few lol. Crazy? Maybe lol.
I REALLY want to make this dress:
View A - The sleeveless black one at the bottom. I'm TORN on what kind of fabric to use. The pattern suggests lightweight flannel (AS IF), crepe and lightweight gabardine. Umm no. I don't want either of those. I normally just do my own thing with fabrics/suggestions but I don't know which way to go with this one lol. Suggestions? Hints? Tips? LOL
This is another dress I want to make:
Suzi Chin Maggy Boutique Ruched Jersey Dress
Using Butterick 5282
I think this pattern/dress is timeless. I love it.
I also want a fun/casual type of LBD. I'm still on the fence with the patterns I want to use but I have my inspiration...just trying to get my plan together in my head.
Sooooo do you have a LBD? Link me in the comments. I want to see, and maybe it will help me get out of my LBD slump lol.
Toodles!
I would use fabric with some amount of stretch for the LBD (and its lining). You'll get better results and a better fit! I really love that pattern and I was quite happy with the way my dress turned out!

I'm ashamed to say that I don't have a LBD either. I've been meaning to make one for like the last 4 years. So I feel ya!!! I can't wait to see what you decide to make (wink)!

I was looking at the off the shoulder dress that would be a knock. I do not have a LBD dress, and have a pattern that would great for it. However, I think I am going to find wool crepe or tropical wool and line it. You just gave everyone some inspiration. Thanks.

I need a LBD for October. I've got my fabric, (crepe satin and a sparkly organza) and lining. I still need some muslin (I think I better make one this time) and shoes.

the butterick dress for an LBD would be so versatile, it can be dressed up or down, with flats or with heels and worn with shawls, cardigans, etc. I really like that pattern. Its a good place to start if you don't have a basic LBD, just shorten it.
Remember I did LBD month in October 2009 on my blog, I think I read so much about LBDs that month getting info to post that I couldn't even bring myself to sew one. Funny right?

Wow, that is quite a LBD article! Lots of choices. I haven't sewn myself a LBD either, mine is RTW. I also want to sew myself a one-shoulder dress - I could really see you in that style as well!

What about a lightweight black tropical wool for the vogue dress? TW is designed to be warn during warm weather and is very nice to sew.

Ooo.. I love that Vogue pattern and have been meaning to make my own LBD... although my fabric is a very dark gray instead of a black. My fabric is a lightweight tropical wool... it has a good drape and doesn't feel like wool. How about a lightweight linen? Thanks for sharing those InStyle pages... that's some good inspiration! Good luck!

Omagash!
#14!!! I would have NEVER guessed to pick that off of a rack for a LBD. Maybe because it's so unconventional but I think that's what I love so much about it.
The sequins makes it visually unique. I wonder what different forms it could take on when you pair it with different accessories??? Hm....How would you wear it?
(lucky number 13 is also one of my favorites. -drools)

Great photo of you heading out for the evening! you look fab!
There's a new book I think you'd love called "The Little Black Dress" by Simon Henry. I just saw it this week at Barnes and Noble and it outlines how to make the perfect little black dress-lol. It's on Amazon too.
