Thanks for all the compliments on my hair the other day. I was DETERMINED not to cut it this summer. I want to see how long it will get.
Let me start off by saying I can only post what works for ME.
These are the products that I use. I don't use a complete line of anything. FOR ME...a little of this and a little of that works best.
Products:
NIOXIN Leave in hair repair conditioner
Ojon Ultra Hydrating Conditioner
Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment
I normally perm my own hair OR get Zanete to do it if it's not TOO thick lol. EVERY now and then I will go to the salon to get it done.
I shampoo my hair every week using some kind of moisturizing shampoo. I honestly don't remember what I was using before but when I pulled out all my products I couldn't find it so I think I'm out lol.
I deep condition my hair every week NORMALLY. Sometimes I get lazy lol. First I put coconut oil all over my hair and scalp then I use a conditioner mix that includes conditioner obviously lol (I think I use a VO5 or something) olive oil, and honey. YES HONEY... I will keep it on either all day or sleep in it. Some people can't do that because it over conditions their hair and makes it limp. That is not my testimony lol. I've never had any problems.
Read about the benefits of honey in your hair HERE
Depending on how I am wearing my hair I do a couple things...this summer I kept my hair pulled back so I wouldn't cut it lol. VERY low key. Didn't do much to it at all. I used S Curl (Yup like activator lol) on my hairline to keep it moist and on the ends of my ponytail and put it in a bun. All Scurl does is keep my hair moisturized. I also use it on the girls hair. ESPECIALLY Kayla's. Jaelyn wears a lot of headbands, so I put it on her hairline as well.
In the fall/winter I normally wear a roller wrap (I just roller set my hair, and wrap it lol) during these times, I only moisturize my hair at night. I will use a little coconut oil (a little goes a LONG way) on the ends of my hair and wrap it up. EASY.
I don't flat iron my hair often but when I do I ALWAYS use REDKEN Smooth Down. LOVE THIS STUFF. I spent a bunch of money trying different stuff until I found something that works for me. This stuff is like $15 bucks but it lasts forever. I LOVE it.
I use my Ojon Revitalizing Mist EVERYTIME I shampoo my hair. I LOVE IT.
The Ojon ultra hydrating conditioner is ALL that I use. It works wonderfully for me.
I have a dry spot on the front of my scalp *sigh* I can't get rid of it lol, so I put a TINY bit of tea tree oil on it and it works lol.
Ummm did I forget anything? If y'all have any questions just let me know and I'll answer them in this post.
Like I said I can only go on what works for MOI lol.
Oh...I don't relax my hair every 6 or every 8 weeks. I can sometimes go 10 to 12 weeks. For instance...my last relaxer (perm) was the first week of May. I JUST got another one this week.
OH again lol. I wrap my hair up as SOON as I get in the house if I'm not going back out. Even when I DO go back out I will wrap it up. Especially when I cook. I get hot and my hair is HOT on my neck lol.
I really think that is it this time lol.
I hope this helps someone.
Toodles!
Nice healthy hair! Gotta love it...no matter what texture you rock! AND, I am sooooo happy to know you are teaching your daughters the same. Unfortunately, some mothers are NOT as caring as you are. Check my blog to see what I mean.

I've always heard Ojon products are good. Tea Tree Oil is the truth!! I put it on everything, like the father in My Big Fat Greek Wedding with his Windex! LOL

Your hair is gorgeous! Last summer, after a year without chemicals, I decided to relax again. Since my stylist was able to see my natural hair for the first time, she decided to use mild instead of regular strength.
It grew like weeds in a vacant lot. I wonder how many more are overprocessing their hair.
Thanks for the post.

I wholeheartedly agree about a longer span of time between perms...I am a 12-14 week girl. My hair is healthier and thicker that way. I also moisturize the heck out of my hair, too! Thanks for the Ojon tips...I will check it out.

That's awesome that you only have to shampoo your hair once a week. I used to do it every single day and it got so dried out - now I'm doing it every other day and it's looking much healthier.

what type of perm do you use. I am like you i perm maybe every 10-12 weeks due to lack of money or pure laziness. My hair has gotten shorter and thinner dry and weak. Finances lately do not permit me to go to the salon. I will soon put brillo out of business if not careful. I am on vacation this week and trying to find new products.

Or maybe I misread and you are saying you just do the moisturizing shampoo once a week...

What you're doing *so* works! Your hair is gorgeous. I'm another Redken Smooth Down fan (I use the Heat Glide and Sleek Obedience)--works great for giving that extra bit of calming and smoothing to chemically relaxed hair.

Funny..I though I was the only one withOUT a S curl that used the S curl product. I mainly use it when I pull my hair back or when I shampoo it and wear it curly..it keeps the moisture in cause if them curls dry..whooweee. LOL But I think I have OVER curled my hair this summer and now I have to follow my nightly dreams and get it cut *tears*. I'm going to maybe try what you have done and sample a couple of products. There is one I plan on picking up from Sephora by Carols daughter..love her tui oil. Thanks for the tips..for the hair lazy gal. lol

Thanks for that post. I was on line a couple days ago trying to find out what is a good hair product to used on me and my dd. I will have to try some of these products.

it's always interesting to me to see what other people use on their hair. i sometimes go past 6-8 weeks between relaxers too. my last relaxer was the beginning of june and i'll probably get it done again the end of this month sometime. i am finding that my hair is thinning. i don't know if it's over processed or just old age at 40.

What kind of relaxer do you use... I have been using a texturizer in my hair since the beginning of 2009...and I love it.. the only thing is that it grows out a lot quicker than the regular relaxer.....

Thank you, thank you for the hair tips! I have been in a battle with my hair since adulthood. Like yours, it's thick and grows like you wouldn't believe (the fact that I live just outside DC where it gets really humid in the summer doesn't help).
My hair seems to get tired of certain products after a while. I used to use Frizzease but now am using Smooth Down also. I may give some of the other products you mentioned a try as well. Thanks again!

Thanks for the hair tips. I got a bad relaxer three treatments ago and my hair is breaking like crazy. When this happens I usually cut it off and start over but my hair dresser didn't want to do that. I changed my hair products a few times this year using brands such as Aveda and Biolage. But I think I'm going to go back to my ole stand by which was working for me and had my growing nice and healthy, Fredrik Fekkai Protein Rx line. I guess the saying if it aint broke don't fix it really rings true. Ojan never really worked for me. Thanks for the tip about the Scurl for the edges. I'm going to try that. My hairline get so dry, I need something to help keep it moisturized.

I am going to try the s-curl on my hairline because lately I live with a headband. Thanks for the tip. Also, where do you buy your coconut oil?
Posted by: MrsSaditty | August 06, 2009 at 12:02 PM
I've never tried honey, but heard it was great on hair. I've been trying to grow mine and have been keeping it pulled back to make this happen! The length is gorgeous on you.

I read somewhere about using s-curl type stuff for moisture, but I haven't bought any yet. I need to go to the beauty supply store.

Coconut oil, honey, and olive oil are the TRUTH! I mix shea butter and coconut oil and use that as a moisturizer for my hair and my daughter's. Also, (and since you love water, you already know this) WATER is our hair's/body's friend!!! We can have all the products we want. But we NEED water intake or the products are null & void.

You have beautiful hair!
Other than using a good specific shampoo and conditioner (I change brands from time to time), I don't treat my hair at all; I let it dry naturally and I let it run wild, lol!

You have a serious regimen for your hair. I guess that's why it looks so healthy. I need a good regimen. I must check out the honey website for sure.
Thanks for the information.
