Let's throw it back!!!
Now if you want to see something funny, watch the video HERE I couldn't embed it lol. WHAT do they have on? LOL and check out those moves lol.
The other day, I was in the garage with my dad and I just started to get kinda weepy. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that my mom had been talking about my dads accident. July 15, 2003. Five years ago. WOW. My dad told my mom he wondered what she would have been doing if he had died. Yes, he could have died. I realized it then, but the more I thought about it the other day, I was just overwhelmed with thankfulness. I am SUCH a daddy's girl. YES EVEN AT 30 lol.
(Excuse the crappy cell phone pics)
I was watching him work with his brother (my dad is in the brown tshirt) and was just amazed at how far he has come. After being non weight bearing for SO long, having to do physical therapy for SO LONG...it's just good to see him active again. He is no where near as strong as he used to be, but he worked hard to regain his strength. He has so much so much passion and loves to work. He sits down every now and then but he loves being busy. Think that's where I get it from? LOL
I turned my attention to Aj who was just in awe of what my dad was doing. I don't think he even blinked while he watched him. I was thankful all over again that my dad made it out of that accident. He does a lot with the kids, but especially AJ. Teaching him what he knows. The girls love to hang out with him and they will be the same way I was lol. My dad taught me early on about cars lol. I can change my oil and my tires if I need to. I can tell you what I THINK is wrong with a car even if I can't fix it. lol. I remember being a little girl and helping him at my uncles shop lol. Passing him the tools he asked for and helping him clean them off when it was time to go. My kids will get to have those same memories.
I'm happy my kids have my dad. Hopefully he will be around for a long, LONG time.
Ok, moving on lol.
I made the red velvet cake again for Tony the other day. He called home from work around 1-ish and begged me to make another one...
I forgot to take a pic of it once it was made...when I took this I had hands out ready for their slice. I don't know what it is about red velvet cake but folks pop up out of the woodworks lol. I sent most of it away. Might be two slices left lol. If you cut it small lol.
Sorry Stacey, this one has nuts lol
The person I got the recipe from doesn't want me to giveit out but I did try another one this time. I got it from The Comfort Table by Katie Lee Joel. This book is awesome btw. I plan on making some more stuff from it this coming week.
AND I found the recipe online! I wasn't sure if I could scan it right out of the book so this makes it even better. It's really good.
Grandmother Paul's Red Velvet Cake
I will say this. The first time I try a recipe, I make it exactly like it's written. The next time, I tweak it. This is VERY sweet. I think you can get away with way less sugar. I'll make it again with my changes but NOT until next year lol. I don't even think I'm doing red velvet for Christmas lol.I want to try a southern comfort cake.I've never had any (that I can remember) and I keep hearing rave reviews!!
If you make the cake let me know how you like it!
I FINALLY got my Ali Edwards Book
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO many neat ideas. LOVE IT!!!!!!
As if this post isn't already long enough.... I have become obsessed with finding a pattern like this jumpsuit:
The $450 price tag is not appealing at all lol. I also love the style of this one, but don't like how the legs taper:
at $324 it's less but not too much lol. Looks so comfy. I'm so obsessed lol. I'll make it now if I can find a pattern and make a wrap to go with it lol.
Have a great weekend!!
Toodles!
I am like you...My father had triple a repair a year ago. I am amazed that he is doing so well after. We could have lose him if it wasn't detected. Thank god he had a cold and his doctor saw that his enzymes were high. Be bless and hug your dad.

I'm glad that your dad is doing well. Being a Daddy's girl is awesome!
Did you use the buttermilk? I found my recipe binder and I noticed that I substitute sour cream for buttermilk. Oh, and marshmallows? That's a new one for me!
Have a good weekend!

GREAT POST ABOUT YOUR DAD!!!!
Would you send me a 7 UP cake in the mail? ;)

A jumpsuit pattern I picked up maybe 8 years ago and looks a lot like the black one - loose fitting through the hips. It is OOP though. Just a thought. Are they back in style? Maybe I'll finally have to make this pattern. :)

Fathers are so important in a childs life. Even as an adult your childhood memories are cherrished forever. Although my dad passed over 12 years ago, I'm glad my children had a chance to meet and enjoy him. After his passing we learned how valued his knowledge was not only to his family but the community we live in. His memory will live on forever. Glad to see your dad is doing well, tell him how much you Love him often!

Aw. Your dad seems like a wonderful, wonderful man.

Loved todays post. My dad is gone, and oh how I wish we had had more time with him.
Now about that red velvet cake. I think this is the second time you have posted about a red velvet cake...2 cups of sugar does sound like a bit much...when I make it, and I have to now that you keep tempting us with those pictures...I think I will use one and a half cups of sugar. The frosting alone sounds good enough to eat by itself.
Same ol' Florida Fan, Barbara.

I lost my father when I was 9 (34 years ago!!) and missed out on a lot of father/daughter bonding (he did visit me in a dream last week though). Lately I find myself getting a little angry at their parents for things that I consider really minor. So, hearing about your love and appreciation for your father (and declaring it to the world) is heartwarming!
Posted by: Toni | September 05, 2008 at 05:28 PM
i meant to say "annoyed at people who get angry at their parents".
Posted by: toni | September 05, 2008 at 05:29 PM
Ooh yes it is amazing how precious life is and how grateful we can be for it!
*pouts* @ can't get secret recipe
Yeah I just that pantsuit Sanaa was rockin'!!
Have an awesome weekend Adrienne!

Whaaaaa on not being able to get Tonya's recipe. I already have the one from Paula Dean, but that's not like my old one that I loved. Can I hire you to just make me one if you can't share the recipe? :)
I found an old pattern on Ebay:

A red cake for Christmas - what a great idea! I've never made one, only eaten it. Think I'll have to try it this year.
Looks, like you may have already found your pattern on ebay. I was going to suggest going to the vintage sights and just searching for a jumpsuit. I did and found the exact pattern I was looking for.

I don't know what happened to your dad but I'm glad that he made it through and stuck to his therapies. (I'm an OT).
Love the pic of him with A.J. He's just entranced watching his Grandpa.
You don't want to spent $450 for a jumpsuit? I can't believe the cost of "designer" stuff...whatever for a name!

So happy for you that your Dad is doing so well. I TOTALLY know where you are coming from; you know my mum had that stroke, 2 1/2 years ago, well she also is doing SO fantastically well. They can teach us a thing or two, huh?
Posted by: JenR | September 07, 2008 at 02:03 PM
Adrienne, what a beautiful and reflective post. I always look at the bond between A.j and your dad . I can feel it all the way over here.
God has written this sweet journey for us and it included your dad being here for a long time. : ) don't sleep on J.C! He ain't through with us yet, is he? : )
Now about being able to change a tire or your oil- girl that is the shizznick there! Girl Power!
I have that cook book and for me it is the best cookbook this year- it's genuine and the recipes are easy. I am a sucker for southern cookbooks.
Is that Miss. Lathan rockin that jump suit? She is just gorgeous! You would look great in it!
: )

No. 1 - I'm sorry for the scare, but thank God your father is here and well!
No. 2 - Your son is adorable
No. 3. I hate you for the cake, again!
No. 4 - Find a tube dress pattern and a pair of pants pattern, that are similar and merge them. Adding pockets is easy! You could definitely make that jumper!!

Hey lady, glad your dad is getting back to normal as much as possible!! :)
Okay so after seeing that cake of yours I went out today and got the stuff to make it. The batter was lovely-I followed everything since this was my first time. First, mine was not enough for 3 layers, hmmm. It is very heavy. The icing came out really nice-that I am pleased with. I cut a small piece to try and I am not sure I like this. (I know the kids wont) I am wondering what I did wrong. any suggestions??
thanks!

oh man my mom made me red velvet cake for my bday. I'm on the look out for the perfect recipe now!
Posted by: Bobbi | September 08, 2008 at 06:21 PM
What do you mean the person doesn't want you to give it out....are you serious? Is it that secret? I guess I'll have to work with Paula Dean then!!!
Posted by: Melanie | September 10, 2008 at 10:42 AM
(I'm ONE WEEK behind on my blog reading... sigh)
I'm glad your father was able to recover... I am my daddy's girl too and I wouldn't know what to do without him... Your son has a great row model.
Posted by: Tany | September 13, 2008 at 04:16 AM
I meant "role" and not "raw" (you can see how tired I am), ROTFLOL... Sorry for that! Have a great weekend, my friend!

I love the photos with your dad and AJ around the car. My hubby, Joe, is converting an old Porsche to an electric car and he's great about having the girls out there helping him!
Family is so important.
Take care!

Girl, I laughed so hard at that Gap Band video. And you posted it on my birthday -- how fitting. I used to have a poster on the wall in my dorm room -- my roommates used to turn it upside down because they said they were so ugly. I don't remember what they were wearing, but I know it matched and was shiny! Thanks for the memories!
