HAPPY NATIONAL SCRAPBOOK DAY (NSD)!!!
Do you guys have anything planned!?!? I will be a little busy but I'm going by my LSS , again today lol. I was JUST there yesterday. You know what happened??? I ran out of white and ivory cardstock. I WILL stock up tomorrow!!! LOL
For all of you that sew, I have a question.
Is there REALLY a difference between Mettler and Coats & Clark Thread?? I mean OTHER than the price?? What thread do you use?? I picked up some from Hancock yesterday because I was curious about it, and it was on sale :-)
Thanks to ALL of you for all of the condolences, prayers, emails, phone calls, staying up with me until the wee hours of the morning breaking the laptop and youtube...WORK IT lol. It really meant a lot to me.
My cousins service was beautiful. Sad, touching, but it was so beautiful. It seems like that would be the wrong thing to say, but it was really beautiful. I managed to get two pictures before my battery on my camera gave up the ghost...
This is the only pic I have of me and my mom and dad since my wedding. I wonder If I can talk them into taking a family picture??!? **making mental notes**
One of me and my mooooooooommmyyy:
Yep, she is SHORT! LOL
and me and my dadddddddddddyyyyyy
VERY bad pic, but this is so going to be a LO....as soon as I get some more white CS! LOL
And my other cousin Corey (brother of the deceased)
He is NOT tall, he made me take off my shoes! LOL
Ok, that is all...must go work on my arms some more because my arms look HUGE! UGH lol.
Have a great Saturday guys!!!
Toodles!
Supposedly Mettler is a better quality than C&C. I like the way it looks, especially when used for topstitching... it has a nice sheen.

Lovely pictures and your outfit looks AMAZING!
I think I cannot find any of those thread brands here... What I use (mostly) is Guttermann (the "U" takes two dots on top of it, lol, I guess this is a German brand...)
Have a great weekend Adrienne!

Those pictures are really nice! Personally I think it's okay to say a funeral is fun - maybe the difficult circumstances bring out the best in everyone.
I've read all sorts of opions about different threads but I just use whatever matches my fabric best! I've never noticed any difference in quality.

Good Question about the threads, I use a variety of 100% polyester threads: Excell/Singer/TrueSew or C&C. Lovely Pics

I have to chime in...I just tested this 2 days ago...I LOVE Mettler...but I can't afford to play when I am using it...Coats and Clark just revamped their sewing thread...and I must say they have 2 that worked great for me...both were 100% cotton and did really well on some topstitching....so I now know I can go either way and feel good...

You know an uplifting service can be fun and very nice to attend. I have been to several were you just didn't sit around and cry but was a celebration of life. I find these to be very inspiring.
I agree with Erica regarding the threads. I usually work with Coats and Clark.
Nice photos. You arms are not bad at all. I want to firm mine up too though.
Stay Strong!

I went through a stage where I wouldn't buy anything American-made unless there was no other choice. The indie store I frequented was proud of the fact they carried so much non-American made merchandise. I guess I absorbed that prejudice and that was when I started using Gutterman and Mettler thread. To be honest, I haven't noticed any difference between threads. It seems to me Mettler or C&C has a better color match when I can't find a good color match in Gutterman's selection. No local store carries Mettler - I only buy it when I order from Vogue Fabrics.

My sewing teacher loves C&C. She spoke of the new thread release from C&C and always tells us to spend a few pennies more for good thread, not the 3 or 5 for a dollar threads on the endcaps.
I'm glad that your cousin's funeral lifted your spirits.
Have a good weekend.

Tell the truth, I've used both Mettler and C&C, as well as Gütterman. I don't see any difference in the finished products, and if you asked me, I couldn't tell you from one garment to the next which kind of thread was in it! I go mostly by color matching. Sometimes one brand has the exact color I need, and I buy that.

Your arms look fine, and you look great. Just don't make any more of that Paula Deen food and you're all set. LOL! (I still want some of that cake.)
Here's a bit on what we can't see about sewing thread. Might be helpful. http://sewing.about.com/library/weekly/aa102100a.htm
That's not the wrong thing to say at all. We all have to go, and I think it's an honor to celebrate a person with a beautiful service and to focus on his life, rather than his passing.

First off - I've been to many funerals that were celebrations and I tend to walk away from those with a greater appreciation of life in general...
Secondly - could you be any cuter? I don't think so. Did you make that outfit???!!!! You kill me!
Thirdly - Could you STOP making the rest of us look like lazy slobs?
Thanks,
Mandy

I'm sorry for your loss, Adrienne. Your family pictures are wonderful. Regarding thread, I've found that getting the right type of thread is more important than the brand. When sewing 100% cotton fabric, always use 100% cotton thread. If you use polyester, which is stronger than cotton, your fabric will tear before the seam will, which will make repairs difficult to impossible. I absolutely love Mettler's silk-finish 100% cotton thread. For sewing blends, however, I like Coats and Clark Dual Duty better than Metrosene. For top-stitching, silk buttonhole twist use to be the thing but it's only available carded now. Size 30 rayon is nice, though. My over-all favorite thread brand is Signature by American and Efird but I don't have a local source for it. Hope this is helpful!

I use Guttermann or Mettler. When I bought my sewing machine they told me not to use C&C that Mettler worked better so I have this bias. Considering the other comments I might have to experiment with C&C. I do love the sheen the Mettler has and prefer it when the topstitching will show.

I prefer different threads for different tasks. I do like Mettler's rayon thread for machine embroidery because I find that it is less likely to fray. But when it comes to all-purpose or multi-purpose, mercerized cotton thread for general sewing/regular seam work, I would never pay extra for the European brands. If they are on sale I buy them, but otherwise the Coats brands is more than sufficient (and that leaves more money for my other addictions - I mean necessities. Hope you and your family are doing well.

Isn't that something?? We go to funerals and sometimes we get pictures that we normally wouldn't have gotten. I think it is a beautiful gift. I love the pictures :)

Here I am getting caught up on my blog reading. So sorry to hear about your cousin...and yes I know exactly what you mean about a funeral service being beautiful...my Granny's was beautiful. AJ cracks me up!!!...that sounds like something Abbey would say to me!

Hi Adrienne,
I find that each of the brands, Mettler, Gutterman and Coats all have slightly different shades. My reason for choosing one brand over another is always to do with the colour match, not quality. I've not noticed any real difference in quality.

When I bought my machine they told me not to use C&C. I used Gutterman at the time but then they told me that Gutterman had moved their factories (and reduced quality control) and that Mettler was better. I *try* to use Mettler but it is harder to find. There is a WONDERFUL selection of Mettler in Placerville, CA where my mother lives... but that is a 3 hr drive one way from where *I* live. So not something I do all the time. The Hancocks near me has some Mettler and I usually get it there.
The biggest difference is not how the thread works on the garments but what is left behind in the machine (the less the better) and I have noticed that the mettler leaves less "fluff" behind.

Catching up on your blog - those are nice pictures of you and your family. I really like the one of you and your mom and dad. Too bad it was such a sad occasion. You guys should totally do a family portrait!
On the thread, I use Gutermann because I bought this huge cabinet of every different color when it was on sale at JoAnn's after Christmas last year. But I truly don't see much of a difference between it and the Coats and Clark and Mettler.
