Hey guys!!! Today's post is all about cameras!!!! I am going to list some cameras that "I" would suggest or purchase for myself. I get asked this question a lot, so why not address it here?!?!! LOL
I am LOVE Canon Products. LOVE THEM, but I will suggest different cameras that I either own, or have played with, in different price ranges. Hopefully if you are in the market or if you will be soon...this might help!
Ok, so let me confess...this post actually allowed me to go to a camera store and touch and feel these cameras.....why? Because I need a new one for my purse lol. Remember Jaelyn got my powershot for her photography class at school :-) I don't want to carry my 20D EVERYWHERE lol.
Let's get started shall we? LOL
**DISCLAIMER, I am only sharing what I have learned. If by chance you choose a product, and it does not work for you, you can not blame me that it didn't work out** I'm just sayin...lol
GREAT ARTICLE!!! Don't let the terms fool you....educate yourself. ALWAYS research what you want BEFORE going into a camera store. People will rip you off if you don't know what you are talking about!!! They will try and get over on you. ESPECIALLY women! Call it what you may, but it's the truth!!!
How many megapixels is enough?
Don't let the numbers fool you. You can have a 12 MP camera and if you don't know how to work your camera....your pics will still look like crap. Just because you have a high dollar camera does NOT mean you will have quality photos. One of my FAVORITE bloggers, uses a point and shoot ,I think almost exclusively, and her pics are GORGEOUS! ALWAYS!!!
Ok, let's start with the cameras:
Olympus
Olympus Stylus 830 Price $249.95
This is a REALLY good camera. When I played with this one, I was able to take some pics and print them out. They came out WONDERFULLY. I don't have this, but I did get a chance to play with it at the camera store. It's really light and very user friendly!!!
Nikon
Nikon Coolpix S51c Price $234.95
Now, I am SO NOT a NIKON girl, but if I HAD to get a NIKON, this would be the one. It is VERY nice. I have a hard time with the NIKON functions, because they are so different from the Canon. Almost polar opposite lol But this one was really easy for me to pick up on. It's no t really an issue until you TAKE THE CAMERA OFF OF AUTO...I really suggest you all do that lol. This one did really well in low light. I mean SURPRISINGLY well.
HP/Hewlett-Packard
Hp/ Hewlett-Packard Photosmart M537 Price $99.95.
Now I have NEVER used this camera but I have seen pictures from it. They look REALLY good. If you don't plan on printing above a 8x10, then this would be great for you. On a budget? Still great. HP has come a LONG way with cameras. My first digi was a HP that came with a printer! IT WAS AWFUL!!! LOL, but these pics were REALLY good and the person that took them, kept the camera on auto! LOL
SONY
Sony Cyber Shot-DSCw55 Price $169.95
I have NOT had a chance to play with this but if you are just looking for something to sling in your purse, but still want a good pic, I think this may be a good choice. If you always forget to take your memory card out of the card reader....don't have a fit...this one has an internal memory card but you can also use an additional card if needed. That is a pretty cool feature!
CANON** Be still my heart lol**
Canon Powershot SD750 Price $264.99
This is my first choice. It has some awesome features.
More Canon goodness! LOL
Canon Powershot SD1000 Price $170.95
This one is also really good. It has a FEW different features, and the price is a bit less (because the upgraded version is above this one), but still a great camera.
So, did you see something you liked?!! Want to know which one I am going to order for MY purse!?!? Gotta wait until it get's here! LOL
Hope this info was helpful to someone!!
Have a great day! Toodles!
I surely could have used this post back in May when I finally broke down and got my digi cam! LOL :op
I am glad I got the Kodak EasyShare as my very 1st digi cam b/c I had no idea how to use one! Haha!
My wild guess would be you got you a Canon? :oD

Great info...Thanks.

Thanks for all the info! I use an Olympus Stylus 710 All-Weather, purchased a couple years ago now, so I don't know if it's a current model. I have been SO happy with it. So happy, when the times comes, I may just head straight for another Olympus.
I am super lucky to have a photography boy at home who has taught me alot about exposure, white balance, when to use a flash, etc. Plus some trial and error, of course!

I'm a Canon girl too. I have my Canon digi rebel and my Canon point and shoot for my purse.
Those are some great points you made about camera shopping. All my friends ask me before they go camera shopping. Some even take me with them.

Seriously, Canon is the big dog in my life!! I own the power shot also it's a bad mother..... shut yo mouth!!! LOL Listen to this woman, do not get caught up in higher # of mega pixels, I have seen wonders done with smaller cameras.
Have a wonderful day!

OMG Adrienne! You are SO right! A higher price does NOT equal quality pictures. I have a NIKON D70s and you've seen some of my pictures! lol.
Great information!

My ONLY camera for the past 2 1/2 years is the Canon SD500. I have been happy with it (for the most part) and have gotten my $$$'s worth, thats Fo' Sho'!!! It takes great pics. It was $450 two years ago...now I can get the upgraded model for half the price. Ugg!!

The first digital camera I purchased was a canon and, like you, I'm totally sold on canon products. I also agree with you when you say that an expensive camera doesn't mean you're going to always get great pictures. I don't think that people realize that the user has to know a little about what goes into taking a good picture. Photo repairing software can only fix a picture so much.

I jsut want one that will actually take good indoor photos without the flash!! LOL. :)

Hey girl!! So glad to hear you are cancer free! I can imagine how wonderful ( not good of enough word) you must feel. I will keep you in my prayers. My daughter got the Nikon Coolpix s51 for Christams. I am a Nikon girl. I do appreciate the info. you gave me when I was shopping for my first DSLR. But I just feel in love the the D80. Well, She loves the camera and the photos are terrific. Be Blessed.

I love my new Nikon Coolpix! I am still discovering its features, and need to learn how to shut off the automatic flash!

I've been a canon lover since my first 35mm SLR camera a long long time ago and am absolutely non objective when discussing cameras' brand ;o) Nice review, it's good to read about cameras!

I am so in love with my Olympus FE-280 (even has a built in help-guide). I had the Olympus FE-170, but it was stolen when my car was broken into. The one I have now is so compact(about the size of a deck of cards) and a good camera for my amateur photography.

I had a Canon Powershot A60 and just treated myself to the SD800 Elph. Oh boy...simple to use, and beautiful pictures. I love the macro shots I can get with this. And everything else. Nice post, Adrienne.

I didn't even know what I have so I just went and looked. It's a Nikon Cool pix 5200. I've had it for a few years now. There are things that I like about it and some things that I don't but for the most part I've been satisfied.
Posted by: Larjmarj | January 10, 2008 at 06:03 PM
Thanks for these reviews! Honestly I've been thinking about getting a new camera but decided maybe I'll wait 'til mine gives out... I have a Nikon Coolpix 3200 (4 years old now) and all I can say is thank goodness I have Picasa to edit pics or they'd look terrible ;)

Adrienne, I went out and bought the HP today but can you please email me? I have a question about printed picture quality
Posted by: MrsSaditty | January 10, 2008 at 07:31 PM
I had to laugh when I read "TAKE IT OFF AUTO." I bought a PowerShot A530 like a year ago, and it took me three months to take it off auto and see what it could do. My pictures really did get better!
Thanks for the tips. I can't believe how cheap cameras are now!

Great info. Have you any good tips on a printer? I am looking to get a wide format printer (need to be able to print 12x12 scrapping paper don't you know). Oh yeah, I didn't get a chance to comment on your post of yesterday, so let me say: Praise God from whom all blessings flow. I am praising the Lord with you on your good report.
Posted by: Tracey | January 10, 2008 at 09:13 PM
Thanks for the 411 on the cameras. I in the market to purchase a better camera.

Adrienne, thanks for this very usefull info! Great post! I agree with your advice, when buying something do your homework first! There's no excuse with all that the Internet has to offer!
