DEFINED BY WIKIPEDIA:
A New Year's Resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a project or a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous. The name comes from the fact that these commitments normally go into effect on New Year's Day and remain until the set goal has been achieved, although many resolutions go unachieved and are often broken fairly shortly after they are set.
I started THIS THREAD over on Ravelry and it made me think about the normal list of things I like to make called RESOLUTIONS. I normally don't make RESOLUTIONS per se, but I like to make lifestyle changes.
Last year I didn't make any type of resolutions. I just stated that I needed to make some changes. And baaaaaaaaaaaaaaabyyyyyyyy, I did JUST that. I cut loose some folks that were not good for me, changed my eating habits (I've just about cut out fast food, but do still eat it, but VERY seldom, don't drink too much soda, those type things....)
THIS year however I have a few things I want to ATTEMPT to stick to some "resolutions" DUM DUM DUMMMMMMMMM lol.
SEWING:
I want to plan my projects better. This year, I just bought patterns because they are on sale. I will probably STILL do that, but I want the patterns that I buy to coordinate with SOMETHING else that I have in my stash already. I have to stop making "orphan" items. Same with purchasing fabrics. I know I will still buy fabric, but I want to make sure I am buying something that will coordinate with something already in my stash. I am going to have to be VERY careful with this because I am going on a big fabric shopping trip next year. Soo, we will see how I do! LOL.
I will not be afraid to try a new technique or work with a different/unfamiliar fabric.
PHOTOGRAPHY:
Stepping up my game. *pat on my own back* I think I take really good pictures. REALLY GOOD, but I want them to be BETTER. I want that "WOW" factor. I have it SOMETIMES now, but I want it to be more consistent. I plan on challenging myself weekly. I will NOT do a daily challenge because I know I won't stick with it, but once a week I can handle. I am working on my "assignments" now.
SCRAPPING:
One goal I have is to submit more. I used to do this all the time, but now I want to do it more. I will not be that so consumed in submitting that I forget why I scrap person, been there done that. I will not be devastated if my work is not picked up...been there done that. I will however create LO's that I love, and would love to see in print! LOL
Scrap more with my friends! I didn't do NEARLY enough of this, this year. AT ALL. I also want to host more scrap times at my house. I think I have enough room to do that. Cheryl what do you think? I'm going to add another long table, either this week or next. I'll let you come over when Project Organized Creative Space is complete lol.
KNITTING:
THINK ABOUT PATTERNS AND YARN BEFORE I BUY THEM. I get SO excited about yarn and patterns that I buy them before I think them through. MUST STOP DOING THAT. I end up with patterns and yarn that I no longer want to make/use and it ends up STASH lol.
Nothing in the food department, I refuse to cut back on or give up sweets lol.
Nothing in the money department. :-) Cuz Imma do what I damn well please.
Nothing in the family department, because hubby and I already talked about that! LOL
Nothing in the friend department because my really close friends have already been talked to!
Ok, that is it. Do you guys have any plans!?!?!? Do tell.
Well, I'm impressed! You have a fine lot of NY resolutions there! I know you can stick to them!
As for my own resolutions, the major one is about my workout routine and I started putting it into practice a month and a half ago. I'm really commited into adding this back into my daily routine; I feel healthier, more confident and less stressed already! Have a great day, Adrienne!

Those are very good resolutions and some of them i might take up too....like the knitting yarn and patterns one!
I really want to get my health better under control. I have already made a good start on this but next year i want to focus more and harder on this.
Have a good day.

Loved your list. *taking notes* Haha!
I try not to make resolutions but make slow changes along the way like you have.
I am typically very broad about what I want to do. But really need to be more specific and intentional about it...so I guess that is mine for the new year!! ;oD
Happy Tuesday Adrienne!

Great resolutions, Adrienne! Sensible and doable, which means you'll manage to keep them.
I do have one resolution sewing wise: make a spreadsheet of my patterns and a spreadsheet of my fabrics, like Shannon of Hungry Zombie Couture does.
Knitting wise: keep learning new things, especially learn to knit cables on a loom!

I have a few knitting resolutions, but that's about it. I no longer do ambitious lists...I'm like, if it happens, fine, if not, I can live with that, too! LOL.

I do set goals for myself for the year - the other day I revisited the ones I set for myself at the beginning of 2007 and I've met most of them. Good for you for keeping the ones you set and making even more ambitious ones!

I never make resolutions for the new year but this year I want to make 1. I want to be pregnant by the end of the year. We will start trying to get pregnant in August as then we will move to our new house.
Love, Isolde

morning, I don't call them resolutions because I usually forget by Feb. - so I would say that I set goals because it is ongoing and that way I can review my progress and make changes without feeling like a failure... But to answer your question I would say health and organization. I see my kids picking up my bad habits like Kira has a little pile of dirty clothes on the floor Why? because I didn't empty out the clean clothes from the pamper and put them away.....OMG! these a resolution - teach my kids to fold and put their own clothes away....

I don't have resolutions as much as life changes. One big life change is to be more organized so I can have more time for the things I want to do. Working and going to school took up most of my life this year but next year I won't let that happen. Also, I want to start stash busting. I have TOO much fabric and I need to bring the pile down, so I am going to make some things I need and want so I can make room in my apartment instead of my fabric having its own space like it pays rent. lolol

I like your resolutions! Good luck with them! I think if you view them more a guidelines than strong promises, you will be more likely to stick to them. I am finishing up my list of resolutions right now, though I was about to post it and all of a sudden the page disappeared.....friggin computers!

I love, love, love all your resolutions!!! I haven't even started thinking of mine quite yet, but I always love to make some of those! :)

I make resolutions, but they usually stay in my head - so I break them and no one ever knows!! This year (2008) I will put them on my blog and make them into a wish board that will be posted on a wall in my apartment.

My only resolution is to make no resolutions. Yes, I am lazy.

I am in the process of creating my resolutions for the New Year. Sewing, knitting, and losing weight are at the top of the list for 2008.

GREAT resolutions!!! And I am THERE as soon as you are ready for me to scrap!!! Let's have a Welcome in the New Year Scrapping Get-Together once Christmas is over. That would be FUN!!! And I think I will seriously be wanting to scrap some photos by then!!
And, yes...I absolutely make resolutions every year. They are usually lifestyle changes, too. Last year was to drink fewer sodas, pray more regularly, things like that. And, of course, to work on my novel...but that never seems to go anywhere! (Maybe this year... LOL)
I LOVE your list!!!!!!!

I still haven't come up with my "resolutions" or lifestyle changes. I know that I don't do well with SWAP. I like random patterns and fabrics.. hmm.. LOL

I makes them then I breaks them.
Actually, I make resolutions daily...

Good luck with your resolutions. I long ago gave up on them. I think I make it like a week or something.

I don't really do much for resolutions. I do try to improve on my actions/behaviors over the previous year. This year (2008) I would like to give more to charity. I was able to do that in 2007, thank heavens, and I'd like to up my game that way. Other than that, it's the usual keep up the exercise schedule, don't yell at the kids as much, try to keep the house neater, yadda yadda yadda.

Very well spoken. I do make resolutions. Sometimes as the year progresses I modify. Mines is usually more hilosophically or spiritually based. Today and yesterday, while reading blogs I begin to think about it from a creative aspect. In general, I want to be better at all of it. I guess I could say striving for excellence. Taking time to get it as right as possible.
