Hello internet land! LOL. How are you all doing? I am GOOD. I found out Tuesday that my iron was VERY, VERY , VERY low, but now I have some nice red pills that make me feel better lol, and some spinach, and some beets lol. EEWWW lol. But I'm good today. I am taking all of this ONE DAY AT A TIME!!!! I realize there will be good days and not so good days. And I plan to keep a record of it all.
Ok, how about a WTF moment. Ummmm WHY did I get a BOX of baby formula in the mail??? WTF?!?! I do NOT need this nor do I want it. I have no idea why it came. Tony asked me if I had something to tell him. Ummm HELL NO.
Ok, my SIL told me about this stuff and OMG. It is SO good. I have to HIDE it to keep my kids out of it lol. They love it too. OMG. Be warned, if you try it, it is VERY addictive. Soooooo good. Did I mention that it is good??? LOL
This book, The Knitter's Book of Yarn, is AMAZING. It's broken down soooo good. The first section is on Fiber Foundations. It talks about EVERYTHING!!! The next section talks about Making yarn. Now the third section, Ply Me A River...OMG. it breaks down all the different ply's, then goes into different yarn types (LOVE THIS SECTION) It also has patterns in it that are SORTED by the different plys/types of yarn. OMG. Did I say I love it!?!?! Now, I don't care for ALL the patterns, but there are a couple I could really see myself making.
GREAT BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have not been sewing, but I have been reading and this book, Fabric Sewing Guide Is a MUST. It is WONDERFUL. It is full of SOOOOOOOO much information!!!!! I LOVE the way it's broken down. I mean, I have a LOT of sewing books. A LOT, but this one is sooooo good. I mean, if you want to learn about fabric, and it's contents, what's man made...omg. I could go ON and ON. This book is fantastic.
While on the subject of sewing...... lol, I have made up in my mind, that I will stop saying, I wish I could do this, or I wish I could sew like that. I am just going to DO IT!! It's only fabric. If I mess up, it's only fabric. I have SO many books, and read SO many wonderful sewing blogs, it's time to apply what I am learning and stop WISHING. I CAN do this stuff. I think I am pretty good with my sewing machine, but there is so much I can learn and WILL learn. SO IF I MAKE SOMETHING AND Y'ALL KNOW IT'S JACKED UP....be a friend and tell me! LOL IF IT'S TOO TIGHT.....TELL ME...LOL, ok enough of that.
I have finally gotten my fabric together for my first quilt. I wanted to do it this year, but ummm, that ain't gonna happen. I LOVE quilts. I don't like all the old timey type ones (I do have one that my great, great grandma made that is SO old it can not be washed. How old is it?? She used flour sacks for the backing. I will try and get a pic of it and post it) but I love the more modern quilts. Well I figured this would be a great place to start. Like all the pretty fabrics????
Don't get all excited. I picked up this "kit" from Joann's lol. Next time I make one I will get more creative! LOL. I also loved the container! LOL
Ok, that's enough for now. Y'all have a great day!
Toodles!
Those fabrics are sooooo lovely and you are totally going to enjoy making your quilt. I made my first quilt this year. Nothing fancy, i think it was only a 15 x 15 or something small like that but i bought myself a kit and had such a great time doing it that i am planning on making a bigger one next year.
Wow, i cant believe that your grandma used old flour sacks for the backing! That is such a family keepsake.
And your baby formula is definately random! How bizzare is that...lol Have a great day today Adrienne

Hi Adrienne, I've been off line for a while coping with a dying computer - crappy when you are a techie phobe. I'm sorry to hear that the cancer has not gone away. My prayers and thoughts are with oyu. I salute you for being so brave and open. Please know that although I am far away, you have my support. Love the sweater by the way, it's MY colour!! Johanne

Adrienne, I have the Fabric Sewing Guide book and I LOVE IT! Though it's fabric oriented, one can learn a LOT about sewing from this book!! And I think you're right, just go ahead and sew it! Take it one step at a time but go! Have a great day!!!
Posted by: Tany | December 13, 2007 at 03:21 AM
So, your making a quilt? Part of me wants to make a quilt, and the other part says, "No way. I can't wear a quilt!" Be sure to post your progress.
Posted by: Elaray | December 13, 2007 at 04:38 AM
That is some pretty fabric for your quilt. Can't wait to see your progress with it!You will love it when you finish it.
Posted by: gold | December 13, 2007 at 06:23 AM
That fabric is wonderful - can't wait to see your quilt!!! It'll be beautiful. I'd love to make one too - but I can barely sew at all!! Glad the iron pills are making you feel better too!!!
Posted by: Lisa Tanner | December 13, 2007 at 06:47 AM
Hey Adrienne,
You are right to take it one day at a time. Keep that spirit and you will do fine. You are in my prayers.
The formula in the mail is very odd. Well maybe you can gift it to someone.
The books look interesting. I may go to the library and check them out.
Your quilt fabric is beautiful. I can't wait to see what you do.
Take Care and Stay Strong...

glad you go somethings straight with your health.
baby formula huh??? sell it on Ebay or Craigslist.
oooo i love quilts!!!! looks like it will be pretty. so what type of pattern are you going for?
Posted by: carmell | December 13, 2007 at 07:47 AM
Those quilt fabrics you picked up are gorgeous. Makes me want to learn to quilt real bad!
Posted by: del | December 13, 2007 at 07:57 AM
I want to pick up one of those quilting kits just for the packaging alone! LOL Super cute!
Posted by: Virginia | December 13, 2007 at 08:17 AM
That fabric is pretty! (I would so buy something for the nice container too! LOL) For your first quilt I definitely reccommend something simple with straight edges! I started off doing something king sized, because I am insane! But luckily I was able to give it over to my hubby's Nana to quilt since I enjoyed every other part of it but the tiny hand stitching! Good luck!!!
Posted by: Diana | December 13, 2007 at 08:42 AM
Love the fabric for your quilt. I may have to pick up that kit.
Glad you are feeling better.
You getting baby formula, would be like me getting baby formula. Too funny.
Posted by: Kim | December 13, 2007 at 08:51 AM
ROFLMAO @ the baby formula!!! And those fabrics are just scrummy!!! :D
Posted by: Latharia | December 13, 2007 at 08:54 AM
I couldn't help but laugh out loud when I saw that baby formula girl. For awhile I kept getting coupons, babies r us magazine, and I was thinking my baby is 5(at the time), why do they keep sending me baby stuff...Baptiste told me awhile ago, if I had another baby, he would kill his self, so I love my hubby and don't want to lose him!!!!! LOL
Talk about a garlic delight, that looks good! LOL But, hey I love garlic. My breath doesn't??? LOL
YOu take it easy Adrienne, and remember you are always in my prayers girl!
Posted by: Dana | December 13, 2007 at 08:55 AM
I saw those sets of fabric at Joann too. Those are really nice! I can't wait to see your quilt. I'd also love to see your grandmother's quilt, do post pics.
Posted by: christina | December 13, 2007 at 09:02 AM
LOL at the baby formula and Tony asking if you had something to tell him. Jim would be seriously questioning me if that came in the mail too!
Your sewing always looks great! Check out Amy Butler's In Stitches book for quilting/quilting-like projects. It is much cheaper on Amazon than anyplace else so I recommend getting it there. Also, Marjorie told me about a shirtmaking book by David Coffin (the guy who starred in that shirtmaking video that we watched in my sewing class) - I just bought it on Amazon.

Baby formula?? ROFL If you don't know anyone, take it to Jessie's Place. Those colors in the fabric for the quilt are so pretty.
Posted by: erica b. | December 13, 2007 at 09:23 AM
Hey Adrienne, I was thinking about you the other day. You're in my prayers girl.
I feel you on the baby formula..I've gotten that, diapers, coupons for baby stuff, sample wipes..I'm like who signing me up for this ish. My husband lookin at me crazy, I'm lookin at him crazy..just a mess lol
I saw that fabric kit in Joann's the other day. Unfortunately, I was in there with my husband and when I picked it up he told me to put it back. lol

Your quilt is going to be gorgeous. I envy your energy level. I want to see more scrap lo's!!!!
I am a R.N. and am telling you to take your IRON!!! It will make you feel better. Thinking about you along your journey.

Okay, the cheese? Delicious! Another use for it? Mix it with breadcrumbs and just a touch of cooking sherry, stuff a mushroon with it and bake. Makes a great SuperBowl snack!
Also, Claire Schaffer's books are the best, and she'll have a new one coming out in February or so, so be on the lookout.
Lastly, quilting is an incredibly relaxing thing to do when you have low-energy days, because it can all be hand-sewn, if you're into that. I love hand-sewing quilts because I think of them as family heirlooms. I know it must feel great to run your fingers along your great-grandma's stitching and know you can still "touch" her.
Be well! I'm prayin' for ya!
Posted by: Mimi Jackson | December 13, 2007 at 10:14 AM
Oh - one more thing... You probably got the formula because you went to the hospital or facility to have your procedure where pregnant woment go to have sonograms or other pregnancy-related issues examined, right? You've been put on a list!
Posted by: Mimi Jackson | December 13, 2007 at 10:17 AM
Quilting??? Are you trying to leave me behind?? LOL When I come visit were going to do something the whole family can do like... go shopping. LOL I adore quilts.
Posted by: Christina | December 13, 2007 at 10:47 AM
Take your iron and get your FIBER. Know what I mean?
I know what you mean about holding yourself back as far as wanting to try to make something and thinking it's above your capabilities. I am feeling that right now with a couple of coveted knitting projects.
This also applies to learning to sew, I had a very icky home-ec experience in Jr. High that made me think that sewing was not my thing. Maybe it isn't but, I should probably try it again now that I am only slightly more grown up.

OMG you and I seem to have alot in common as of late. I ALSO recently found out I have very low iron. I've been having to take 2 iron pills a day. I keep laughing cow in the fridge on the regular. Haven't bought the Knitter's Book of Yarn yet. But am hoping to cast on for the Maine Morning Mitts. Oh and yesterday, I was fondling that fabric kit at Joanne's. It's the cutest thing. I had to refrain myself from buying it. GREAT price.

I absolutely ADORE all of those fabrics. That is gonna be one gorgeous quilt!!!!!!
LOL at the baby formula. Tony's reaction was too funny!
Posted by: cheryl | December 13, 2007 at 02:36 PM
Well Joannes or not those are really nice colours! And yes just go for it sewing wise. I spent years reading the books (BTW I love the book you mentioned by Claire) and now am putting them into practice! Like you say, what is the worst tha could happen?

Posted by: Toni | December 13, 2007 at 04:27 PM
I use to eat Laughing Cow all the time on bagels when I was on Weight Watchers. Need to be on weight watchers now, but that's another story. I also have several of my great grandmother's quilts too. One's on my bed right now.

Hi Adrienne! Glad to hear your iron pills are helping you feel a bit better!
Don't even get me started about cheese spread....I **LOVE** it!
Hugs and hope you stay strong!!

Adrienne, maybe the Enfamil has iron in it!! LOL!!! Just kidding. Eat your spinach, drink your spinach(can make a nasty looking green shake thingy) ...any way you can get it..very very good source of iron. I love the fabrics for your quilt, that are so beautiful!! I have never tried the Laughing Cow, but I am gonna look for it now...thanks for the heads up :) Have a good weekend and take good care of you!! Love ya!!
Posted by: Sue | December 13, 2007 at 07:21 PM
ROTFL!! @ Baby Formula and you saying "nor do I want it" :oD Haha!
Gurl I SO need to take on that attitude about my knitting as you are with your sewing...or for that matter anything we do!
That yarn book is on my wishlist and I am about to take it off! I saw it a couple of weeks ago and it is an EXCELLENT book!! Will be MINE soon since I gotta wait until the new year for my full Harmony set :o(
Posted by: Stacey_CrimsonPurl | December 13, 2007 at 09:20 PM
I'm glad you're feeling better. I had to take iron pills for a while some years back, and they did help. I too had very, very low blood. I remember eating almonds, because they helped me to fight off fatigue when my blood was low.
I like your quilt fabrics. Have you chosen a pattern for your quilt yet? One of my quilts have a definite Asain flair - not so country or old timey. I will try to remember to post a photo soon.
And you're right, just go ahead and jump into projects that you find appealling. That's how we learn.
Posted by: Tracey | December 13, 2007 at 09:24 PM
LOL at your surprise package... do you know someone pregnant? We signed up everyone for Huggies coupons! :)
Posted by: Jude | December 14, 2007 at 01:02 AM
You don't know about laughing cow? LOVE IT!
Posted by: yaiAnn | December 14, 2007 at 01:25 AM
The colors for that quilt kit are some of my favorites combinations. You'll love making your quilt. I love to quilt too but my desire for new clothes always wins out when I have time to sew.
Have a great weekend!
Posted by: Lisette | December 14, 2007 at 06:33 AM
I love the fabric colors for the quilt you will make, it is sure to come out lovely! I like to do art/modern day quilting, usually I do not quilt all the way through though, I just do the patchwork, and stitch through in random places. Well, I wish you a happy, healthy, and creative weekend. I will continue to visualize strength and vitality for your health! Take care and stay inspirational!

Great looking fabric. Good luck on your first quilt project. I'll keep checking back to see how it turns out.
Happy holidays!

I had some catching up to do! First, I'm glad to see you can smile through your sickness. I know I'm not the only one thinking of you and wishing you the best! And hey, beets are delicious! Do pickled beets count?
I'm glad to see your review on the yarn book, too. I've been wanting it, but haven't found a copy to flip through. Reading your review has me ready to buy it, sight unseen!
And finally, LOVE your Tree sweater. I can't wait to get this gift knitting finished so I bust out some silver cotton for that!
Posted by: Marlena | December 14, 2007 at 02:02 PM
LOVE the fabrics you bought for the quilt. Lots of great colors and scale of prints. Looking forward to seeing what you make. You're such a talented seamstress, I know you're going to enjoy the process. And the best part is it doesn't have to fit!
Posted by: kathy | December 14, 2007 at 10:05 PM
Umm my daughter uses Enfamil Lipil with Iron...lol pass it on. That stuff is NOT cheap! lol
Posted by: StillaMomma | December 14, 2007 at 11:01 PM
i love quilts! those fabrics are fabulous!
too funny about the formula and i know what you mean about the cheese, but my favorite is plain spread over apple slices, yum.
Posted by: Lisa | December 15, 2007 at 09:54 AM
Adrienne, I agree totally. I hold my self back wanting to perfect a garment the first time I sew because I don't want to make a mistake. But I read in a magazine ( can't remember which one, I read so many, LOL), that that causes procastination and restrains creativity. So like you, I am trying for the new year to just go for it. If you mess up the pattern altering, buy another one. If you ruin the fabric, buy some more. I have Claire Shaffer's book Sew Any Fabric. That's a good one too!
Posted by: Kelly | December 15, 2007 at 11:53 AM
hey those pretty quilt squares were not at my Joann!
PS take a stool softener with your iron or eat some prunes...yum yum. and...it will turn your poop green so don't freak out!
Posted by: amy | December 15, 2007 at 01:28 PM
i had that anemia in high school, not fun. get your rest and be sure to stay up on your pills!
ROFL @ the baby formula.
that reminds me, i need to go pick up that book of yarn book from the library.
love the new fabric choices, as usual!
