Hi guys!!! Let me take you back....THIS ENTRY was the beginning of one of my latest sewing items. I saw this dress right before the start of summer and I put it in my "file" to keep for later. I LOVED the color block and wanted to incorporate it into my wardrobe. I present to you Butterick 5038
Now, let me tell you. I LOVE this dress. This dress can easily go from "Take the kids to meet the teacher" (which is what I did yesterday lol)
To "date night with hubby" with a few simple changes...the shoes, and jewerly. Beads are made by my wonderful sister, Zanete!
I wore this ALL day yesterday in the heat, and I was cool. Ok...stylish and not hot!!! AMEN!! lol, I got a ton of compliments and it made my day. I seriously want another one and I want one with sleeves!!! I LOVE the way it fits!! I cut the top on the 12 and made the skirt from the 14. Fits perfect!!! YAY
Eyelet Fabric from Gorgeous Things. Cotton Batiste from Hancock. I am really proud of this dress. It was my first time lining something that the pattern didn't specifically say to line.It wasn't really hard, I just made it harder than I needed to lol.
Next up...Simplicity 3775.
I LOVE this fabric from...yep...Gorgeous Things. I held on to this for MONTHS. lol, I think this dress is PERFECT!! This fabric, seriously feels like nothingness against the skin. WONDERFUL!!! I love it. It is another comfy one!! SO glad I made it. The only thing I am going to change is the hem. I should NOT have done a regular hem on this knit dress. I will do a blind hem on it like I did for my other two knit dresses. It looks really tacky hemmed like this so I will pull it out and change it. The more I look at it, the more I do NOT like it. The hem..NOT the dress! LOL
I have two more dresses that I will show you guys next week!!!
I am still being inspired. I was talking to Erica the other day when my Anthropologie catalog came in the mail. SO much good stuff in there. I was SO drawn to this top....
I LOVE this. I posted on every knitting board I am a member of and even asked Robin if she could help me find a similar pattern. Robin pointed out some other BEAUTIFUL sweaters that I just drooled over (this lady is a WEALTH of information!!!!!) but Ravelry came to the rescue. There is a whole THREAD about Anthropologie knits!!! Can I just say I LOVE RAVELRY!!!!!!!!! So I was pointed to this pattern. Almost EXACT!!! Someone has graciously said they would help me with the pockets! I've NEVER done pockets so this will be new and challenging!!! The Anthro sweater does button up the back but I don't need no stinking buttons!!! LOL. So thanks to EVERYONE who sent me emails and posted to help me find something similar!!! I also like this knit top....
Any suggestions!?!?
Ok, that is all I have today!! Hope you guys have a great one!
Toodles!!!!
good job on those dresses! I love the fabric. As a teacher ! can say I wish I only met such fashion-mums!

Your dresses are beautify. I'm checking out the patterns for when my sewing machine is delivered. (Never mind that I haven't sewn a garment in at least 10 years!)

WOW!!!! Two FABULOUS dresses!!! Girl, you rock!!! Seriously! I'm glad you found a pattern for that top and THANK YOU for sharing the link to the pattern! That last top is gorgeous too! I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I find something similar!

Oh, I love both your dresses! I especially like the pink swirly. those colors are right up my alley!
I like the anthropologie too. I wonder how it'd be sewn, rather than knitted, in a worsted wool or other heavy-ish drapey wool? Hmmm...

Gorgeous dresses! You rocked that sewing machine. I especially love the eyelet one! It is so nice you can change the look with shoes and jewelry.
The sweaters are cute!
Have a great day!

Loving the sweaters! Really nice. I like the flared look.
Good for you thinking outside of the box on your dress. I love the knit dress. Really nice. I know what you mean about the hem. I am sure you can fix it easily.
Good Luck on the patterns!

Your dresses came out beautifully, and I love the sweaters you posted. Don't worry about the pockets--I did my first ones this year on my Harlow coat and they were much easier than I thought they would be. I cannot wait to get on to Ravelry as well!

Those dresses are sooo cute! I'm gonna have to make a special trip to B'ham so I can get some serious lessons on how to work a sewing machine. Dang, that stuff seriously looks better than the junk in these stores. Great job. Love the perfect conversion dress, shows just enough leg while being sassy and classy!!!

I think you are secretly going to TJ Maxx and buying these beauties. I just don't know how you can possibly push all of these out, so quickly, so perfectly and raise a family! You are too much! :)

You dresses are so cute!! I admire you for being able to take the time to make them yourself. Did you teach yourself to sew? I'm thinking of taking a sewing class at Joanns and getting in on this dress making business. Sorry I haven't responded to your email, I am 100% job hunting, hasn't been fun either!!
Posted by: CathyVal | August 08, 2007 at 04:48 PM

You never cease to amaze me. Soon you are going to need a bigger closet to accommodate all these great outfits you are making. And if you run out of space, you can send some to me! ;)
