Is this not a fantastic quote???? Happy IW guys! You can click the IW to go to the podcast for this week!!! I tell you, Toya and I have a great time lol.
Saturday while I was at the pageant, which was fantastic btw, my mom kept the kids. Now imagine my surprise when I get back and my mom, with a big grin on her face, tells me....come look at this...now I am so beyond exhausted, all I wanted to do was pick up the kids and go home, take a shower and crash. So....anyway, I walk into the sewing room, Jaelyn is grinning from ear to ear. She helped mom/mom helped her make two outfits. The first one she made for Kayla (so if she messed up, it wouldn't be hers, HA!!! LOL) yeah lol....she had to use white thread because she couldn't see the stitch line using the navy blue...I present to you Jaelyn's first outfit (that isn't even hers)
Kayla is so happy, and jaelyn is so proud. I think she did a wonderful job! I hate I wasn't there, but glad my mom got to be a part of this. It's something Jaelyn will remember for a life time, my mom is still talking about it lol. Here is a back view. Jaelyn did NOT do the elastic OR the serging...mom did those lol.....my mom also did Kayla's hair. That is NOT my doing lol...
The child didn't want to take it off lol. I'm proud of my baby! She said she wants some more patterns lol. She is making one of these outfits for herself and get this, this Hilary Duff pattern. It's already been cut out. My mom is going to help her with it this weekend! lol That child jumps right in. Not afraid of a challenge! That is my baby! She said if she messes up, grandma has some more fabric...which she does! lol
Speaking of my mom, here is her Hancock Table...IN HER HOUSE! LOL
This is a bad pic, taken with my camera phone, but I didn't have my camera....anyway can you see that cupcake fabric on there? She has had that fabric since I was a little girl. SHE MADE ME A DRESS OUT OF THAT!! And she still has enough to make a skirt for Kayla. It's scary! LOL. Anyway, when one of the hancocks closed here a while back, she bought the table. Notice the wall is not finished...that is because they had to TAKE THE WALL DOWN TO GET THE TABLE IN THE HOUSE!!!! Yep, my dad loves her!
I am SO into my sewing right now. I mean seriously. I am really wanting to get better. I spend a TON of time on Pattern Review. I ask a ton of questions, and get the help I need. I am still very new to sewing. I don't claim to be an expert by any means. I learn with every project. I am thinking about taking an online class. I need to think fast because it started yesterday lol.
Ok, on to some projects......
I made.....
I need to press it lol. It was raining out, so no pics on me.
Simplicity 3887 View C with view A sleeves made with chocolate challis. This stuff is SO soft. My top is really, really comfy.
Very, light baby blue linen. This feels so good next to my skin!!!!!! And so cool!!!
Love this one too. I have it pinned because I couldn't find my button hole foot!!! So it looks a little crazy, but hopefully I can remember where I put it so I can finish it. I also need some lace hem tape for my hem. The fabric is really flimsy and it will give it some weight, and look pretty too! lol
Knitting Inspiration.....
I have been stuck in a rut with "Coco" I seriously have no mojo for her, but I will finish. Just not today lol. Hopefully by next week, so I can move on. I also have no desire to knit Rusted Root anymore lol. The thrill is gone lol. I have been looking at a couple of options for my cotton fleece, I will post my final decision tomorrow...tee hee.
Well that is it you guys! Have a great IW! Enjoy my new song!!!!!! I promise I will play this all summer. LOL, I need to make this my personal theme song lol. Love Jill Scott!!!!!!
Toodles!
Glad you had a great time this weekend. Your daughter's 1st sewing project is putting me to shame. :)

First: deliver my SINCERE compliments to Jaelyn! WOW! She is her Mom's daughter and she did GREAT for a first time! WOW, WOW! You're right, she will never forget this (I still remember my first wearable garment, lol).
As for you, you are sewing like a storm, girl! I think you're doing a great job and being very successful on building an entirely new wardrobe for summer!

Way to go Jaelyn! Great job sewing!

I am soooo impressed by your family's sewing prowess! My mom was fantastic behind a sewing machine, but I am absolutely awful. I can make draperies and valances and such, but clothing seems impossible for me. So my hat is off to you all.

Wow, I am very impressed with your daughter's project! I love that cutting table of your mom's too - what a great idea to have bought that - I wish I had thought of that a few years ago when a Hancock's went out of business around here.
I hope you don't give up on knitting - you sound bummed about it. One bad project doesn't mean anything. But I know what you mean about being more into one thing vs. another at different times.

I cannot BELIEVE how great Jaeylyn is at this!! She can give ME lessons. I was a home ec dropout pretty much!! Hated the sewing session! lol

Jaelyn did a great job! Way better than my first attempt at PJs when I was 15! That is hilarious she used little sis as a guinea pig! LOL
I loved it that your Dad took the wall out so your Mom could have her sewing table, that is true love!
I love the chocolate top! Beautiful! All your sewing progress is reminding me that I have 3 tops waiting to be sewing together in my dinning room/craft table. I must get to work.

Tell Jaelyn I said YOU GO GIRL!!!!!! Love that brown top you made too hot girl! Dana

Jaelyn should be so proud of herself on her first project. I know she is still grinning from ear to ear. Good for her!
Kudos on the chocolate top! Too cute I am feeling my sewing jones kicking up!
As for the knitting, your mojo will come back. You may have burned out on it a bit. I believe you will have it finished sooner than expected.
Catch you later!

I'm so jealous of your sewing - it's beautiful! Not to mention your little girl's splendid job on her top :)
I don't have a sewing machine any more (nor anywhere to put one) but I used to sew all the time and I sincerely miss having the option.
Posted by: Robbyn | June 20, 2007 at 06:26 PM
I learned to sew around your daughter's age and look at me now! *LOL* Please continue to encourage her, we need future sewers! My mom couldn't sew, learned from my grandmother, but my mom faithfully bought me fabric and encouraged me to get better. Now she can't believe what I make-says that its even better than her mother. I doubt it because at one point my grandmother was even making her own hats...but I digress!
Love the new dress and top. If you really want to give the dress some weight add a light cotton batiste lining to the skirt. I know this might involve some ripping but it will be worth it!
Posted by: Carolyn | June 20, 2007 at 08:29 PM
congrats, Jaelyn! cute outfit! like mama, like daughter! LOL Kayla looks so pretty modeling that!

Wow! I'm really impressed with Jaelyn's work. I've been trying to encourage my girls to sew but they just don't have the motivation. What a beautiful accomplishment.
Posted by: kathy | June 25, 2007 at 11:21 PM
It's a shame that your baby can sew better than me.
I need to put down my needles and focus on sewing more.
