Sewing....a year in review

So I did this same thing last year and really wanted to do it again this year lol...did you miss it? LOL here it is:

2008 Sewing year in review 

This year I made 42 garments. You can see them here.

I've gotten past trying to see how much I can sew. I sew for quality..NOT quantity lol.

My most worn garment:

 
My lounge wear. I wore this OUT! It's Kwik Sew 3678 It was perfect for either wearing around the house or running out to pick up the kids.  LOVED IT.

Simplicity 2700. Has to be my favorite pants pattern HANDS DOWN! The fit is SUPERB!!!

I think I made these like 3 or 4 times lol

WHY in the world did I make that!?!?

 
Simplicity 3536 ummm I should have left this pattern at hancock lol. It looks awful on me and its sooooooo not flattering lol.

I think I did pretty good this year with sewing what looks good on me. It's a work in progress lol. I only had this one thing that just didn't work. So I think I did pretty good!

My goals from last year:

• PURGE my patterns.

   I DID GO THROUGH AND PURGE MY PATTERNS, I ALSO ORGANIZED THEM AND ADDED MORE TO THE COLLECTION LOL. BUT I GOT RID OF THE ONES I KNEW I WASN'T GONNA SEW LOL.

• Make more basic/everyday tops.

I THINK I DID PRETTY GOOD WITH THIS ONE. CAN ALWAYS DO BETTER THOUGH.

• Use more of the fabric that I have.

UMMMM I DID OK LOL. A FEW TRIPS OUT OF TOWN MESSED ME UP WITH THAT ONE LOL.

• Be a less selfish sewer :-)

IM PROUD I DID VERY WELL WITH THIS!!! I MADE PJ PANTS FOR TONY AND AJ, AND DRESSES FOR THE GIRLS! I ALSO MADE PJ PANTS FOR FOLKS FOR CHRISTMAS! :)

• Make my duvet cover and window treatments for my home.

UMM DIDNT DO THIS AT ALL LOL. SOOO IT WILL BE ON MY LIST FOR NEXT YEAR LOL.

• S.W.A.P more often. NOT necessarily for a contest...just have a plan in mind lol.

DIDNT DO THIS EITHER LOL. WELL, I DID SEW VACATION WARDROBES...THAT COUNTS..RIGHT? LOL

• MASTER a welt pocket.  Right now they are just frustrating lol.

NOPE! LOL

• Learn AT LEAST 3 new techniques.  Something I have never done before. I have three in mind, but will talk about them at a later date.

• Make a white button down shirt. I need a new one.

NOPE LOL

• Make my quilt!!! LOL

YES! lol

My goals for 2010:

• Sew a spring wardrobe. I already have my patterns picked out. Gonna work on picking fabrics from STASH for this lol.

• Make my duvet cover and window treatments
• Make a white button down shirt.
• Master a welt pocket.
• Don't fall victim to the pattern sales. I swear they GOT ME this year lol.

That's about it! Not much at all. I'm still learning when I sew so that is a good thing and I just want to strive to just do better with my sewing as a whole. I think I'm well on my way!

  Ya know....just in case you missed it ;)

Tony and Pat went to the Papa John's Bowl Game LIttle did I know that would be the LAST game they went to together.

Celebrated 12 years of marriage...

Went to New Orleans with Patrice

Jaelyn turned 13 :( lol yes, I have two other children, but they aren't teenagers yet lol

Went to Stitches South met Robin and spent some time with Fergie :) Gotta love meeting blog friends!

Patrick Died :(

Aj Was Baptized

Patrice came to visit me!! :)

I made my first pair of jeans!

We went to DISNEY WORLD!!! LOL

Went to St. Louis to visit Patrice

Our family pet Asia died :(

Went to Chicago and had a BALL! 

And that's pretty much it! LOL

Despite some of the heartache and pain, it was a pretty good year!

2010 is going to be EVEN BETTER!

Sewing 2008...A Year In Review...

I was catching up on blogs and ran across Lindsay T's and thought this was a superb idea! I will look forward to doing this EVERY year now lol.

Last year I made a couple resolutions in regards to my sewing....(In red is what I said last year)

I want to plan my projects better. This year, I just bought patterns because they are on sale. I will probably STILL do that, but I want the patterns that I buy to coordinate with SOMETHING else that I have in my stash already.

• *I did really good with this one. I didn't hit up all the pattern sales and buy patterns because they were .99 I actually picked up things that I really wanted to make. My mojo ran out in October I think lol.

I have to stop making "orphan" items.

• *EVERYTHING I made, went with something else that I either already had or was planning on making. I didn't have ANY orphan items this year! YAY!!!

Same with purchasing fabrics. I know I will still buy fabric, but I want to make sure I am buying something that will coordinate with something already in my stash. I am going to have to be VERY careful with this because I am going on a big fabric shopping trip next year.

• *My "big" fabric shopping trip didn't happen (was supposed to go to NY but I will be there next year woo hoo) but I haven't purchased a piece of fabric other than when I went to North Carolina and I told y'all vacation fabric doesn't count. So I've done well. I am very proud of me. I don't need any fabric but want to do better with sewing what I have.

I will not be afraid to try a new technique or work with a different/unfamiliar fabric.

• *I did learn a few new techniques this year and I worked with new fabrics!! I did well!

Number of garments made this year:  55 individual pieces (WOW) lol. Nothing was half sewn, or rushed.... I don't do rushed lol.

Butterick 5247- The second time I made this I used this super, duper soft sweater knit. I LOVE this top!!!

McCall's 5746- I think I did a SUPERB job on this dress. You can read my review here. The construction, the fit. I simply LOVE IT! I've worn it twice already and PLAN on wearing it at least ONCE more before the year is out lol. I do believe this one MIGHT be made again in a lighter fabric for the summer lol.

Why in the WORLD did I make that?

Vogue 8486- This was an easy dress to make but it does NOT look good on me. Funny how much I loved it when I made it...I only wore it to take a pic! LOL. Just the wrong style on me lol

Vogue 8472- I think this was just wrong style/fabric combo for me. I only wore it this one time.

Vogue 8379- While I LOVE this pattern, this fabric was alllllllll wrong for it. This dress look better in a solid or an abstract print. NOT this one lol.

Vogue 1056- This has to be the ugliest thing I've ever made...outside of some of my first garments. I don't even know why I wasted my time lol. BEAUTIFUL on the pattern envelope...not so much on me lol.

THIS POST made me want to learn to knit lol

I celebrated my Ten Year Wedding Anniversary.

I took my first knitting class and wrecked my Benz lol.

Met Mrs. Erica B for the first time lol.

I cut my hair. Now I'm growing it back out lol.

I have the GREATEST TIME at the Scrap Etc event and can not WAIT to get back next year!!!

I GOT A MAC! WOOT WOOT!

Hubby and I went on a great trip!

I GOT A PROMOTION!!! WOO HOOO

My baaaaaaby lol

My FAVORITE FO. I wore this every chance I got this summer lol.

All my kids are in school! NO MORE DAYCARE! LOL

I love football lol.

I got my favorite shoes of the year!!!!

Love my Tree Jacket!!

I had radiation treatments and finished them up!

And that is about it! LOL! Guess I had a pretty good year! LOL, and VERY interesting!! LOL
I have really enjoyed meeting SO many new people!!! I hope the new year brings you all THE BEST of everything!!
