I am a huge Bill Cosby fan. I have been for a long, long time. I was so excited to see his new book, COME ON PEOPLE.....ON THE PATH FROM VICTIMS TO VICTORS.
Cosby has made it his mission to uplift Black America, by showing us the issues that we often times want to sweep under the rug, and letting us know the OBVIOUS, change begins with US. No matter what color you are. There are a few people that I seriously wish I could read this book to!!! Address the problems, and stop avoiding them.
I read this book, and immediately knew it was something that EVERYONE needs to read. Not just those in the black community.
There is so much I can say about this book, but I will suggest you get your own copy and check it out. Let me know what you think.
You can also check out www.billcosby.com, The official site for more infomation and the latest news. The Cos Communities also talks about topics that are not mentioned in the book. It's worth checking out.
Y'all have a great day!
Toodles
Yeah I saw him on Oprah awhile back talking about his book.
I need to check it out!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I could not agree more. I am a HUGE Cosby fan, and I have yet to read the first book. Perhaps over winter break. Change starts with me, let's all stop being stereotypes and shock the world with our SUCCESS and AMAZING-NESS. Because we already are, let's be our OWN PR agents!!!!
(I could go on, and on. Obviously I am passionate about this topic)
Bouncing now before I write more,
KT

Yes, I heard an interview on Tell Me More with Michelle Martin speaking with Dr. Poussaint about the book. I am going to skip over the library to borrow the book and read it.

I've always agreed with Mr. Cosby's philosophies. He and Dr. Poussaint did a wonderful job on this project. I just hope the message is received by those who truly need it.

I will put this on my list! I love reading! I think Bill Cosby has something to say and my family and I are listening. I think my kids will benefit from reading this too. Thanks A!

Totally agree on Bill Cosby - he makes a lot of sense! You could apply what he says to all people, actually - or sum it up by "God helps those who help themselves."

Thanks for the review... I am big fan of Bill Cosby. I still think about the tragedy of his son's death.

I saw him on the Oprah show and agreed with his philosphy.
Posted by: sheila | November 27, 2007 at 01:06 PM
I agree; the Cos is right on so many issues, but the people who need to listen to him most aren't the ones listening.

I don't agree with Mr. Cosby's presentation. I grew up poor and on welfare not because my family wanted to be on relief but because racism made it impossible for a black man to support a family in the 50s and 60s. I can't begin to tell you of the horrors I experienced growing up poor. I think that my positive outlook on life is unusual. You don't have to be a sociologist to know that there are many damaged children who grow into adults and cannot cope as well as others.
We live in a country with many opportunities but many challenges await the poor. Mr. Cosby was challenged with a child who had a learning disability, a child with a drug addiction and a son who was the victim of violence. Mr. Cosby was accused of fathering a child out of wedlock. If Mr. Cosby, with all of his wealth and education, could not prevent those things from happening, how can someone who is poor, abused and undereducated successfully face those challenges?
Poverty, hunger, education and health care are very complicated issues. We are decendents of people who were forced into slavery, and had decades of segregation thereafter. I'm 48 and I remember those days well. While I enjoy an affluent lifestyle now, it would be mean spirited and egotistical for me to wonder why other's of similar beginnings aren't doing as well.
I think Mr. Cosby, an entertainer, should not be furthering the divisions among the social classes. We, as a nation community, seem to be doing this too well already.

I'm not trying to start a debate, I'm really not. I konw this is't a political blog but I wanted to comment on Deborah's comment. You bring up a good point about Mr. Cosby's hardships despite his wealth. Disregarding the fact that he had a child with a learing disability (that being out of his control) maybe his personal experiences are exactly why he knows most things that happen in life are a choice, maybe he unintentionally enabled his son with the drug addiction, maybe if this message he's trying to send now was sent earlier, the very people that killed his son would have chosen a different path and maybe his choice to cheat on his wife and the consequences are exactly why he's writing these books.
Sounds like you are a perfect example of rising above bad circustances. If you can do it, why not everyone else? Don't doubt others abilities. It's time to stop making excuses and to make progress.

I saw Bill Cosby and Dr. Poussaint talking about this book on Meet The Press about 3-4 weeks ago, and I would agree that the message can be applied across racial lines. Definitely on the "must read" list!

i knew he was on oprah awhile back, but didn't know about his book! i'm kind of riding the fence on him, even though he does bring up a lot of topics that need to be discussed no matter how you look at it!

I will certainly check this book out on my next trip to the book store. :) Thanks A for being you! Love you!

Um, Bill Cosby's black? :) I've always loved him since I was a kid and I listened to his records. He's just plain funny. I saw him recently in Seattle. His stories have changed from children to grandchildren, but he still has a very excellent outlook on life and his priorities are very grounded.
